I have posted a copy of this announcement in the #astroflux-announcements channel in the Astroflux Discord (https://discord.gg/rbMWqu6).
On February 3, 2019 at 6:52:47 AM UTC, I used the "SILENCE!" command in global chat. This command instructed ChatDaemon to prevent all users (except mods) from speaking on global chat for 3 minutes. This command exists for times where global needs to be quickly redirected. This was the 14th time a moderator has used this command. The previous 13 uses did not cause any users to remain silenced from global chat for longer than the requested 3 minutes.
However, the 14th use occurred while 720 permanent game bans were active. My best theory is that having so many bans already active caused the SILENCE! command to overflow a container/database the developers built to hold active bans (user may not log in), silences (user may not chat on global), and silencealls (all chat is banned except clan).
As of now, there are 307 silences that are improperly displayed by the in-game tool the developers gave us to look at active bans. The moderators are unable to un-silence these people. I was briefly given access to a low-level account for the purpose of making a screenshot to explain to the developers what was going on. A screenshot with an embedded explanation has been enclosed. Please click/tap on the image to view all of my commentary:
Immediately after discovering that we could not fix it ourselves, I began messaging the developers. Here is the current status of the developers I have contacted:
Magnus: Away on external business, will be away for several more weeks
Stefan: Has not responded to my emails, but Magnus sent him a message today requesting him to check it out
Kumo: Does not have knowledge of the systems involved in this incident
Hopefully Stefan will be able to purge the database of those glitched mutes. If not, we'll have to wait for Magnus to get back in a couple weeks.
